peckvonhartel was invited by Pacific Restaurant Group (PRG) to design Jamie Oliver’s flagship Australian restaurant ‘Jamie’s Italian.’ Jamie’s Italian opened in Sydney and was the first of a collection of Jamie’s Italian restaurants to open in Australia.

Jamie’s Italian, Sydney

Upon entering the restaurant, a fully operational pasta preparation station produces fresh pasta daily, the highly visible pasta machine is integral to every Jamie’s Italian restaurant. An impressive bar is located next to the station, inset with lively tiles that were sourced from around the world. Overhead hangs a dramatically tiered chandelier adorned with distorted pieces of glass and infused with multiple LED lights; weighing 150kg it is visible from the street. Each of Jamie’s Italian restaurants is characterised by a chandelier.

Located at the far end of the restaurant, peckvonhartel has located a kitchen design template used in all of Jamie’s restaurants. Linking the kitchen and bar is the laneway dining area that accommodates the majority of ground floor diners. A dramatic seating banquette of fuchsia and sage green leather extends along mirrored walls, a stark contrast against the timber tables.

peckvonhartel in association with the UK’s Martin Brudnizki Design Studio was once again selected by Pacific Restaurant Group (PRG) to provide design services for the new restaurant, located within the heritage-listed Rowes Arcade building in the Brisbane CBD. Split across two levels, it is the largest Jamie’s Italian in Australia, accommodating up to 240 guests.

To retain the strong identity of the Jamie’s Italian brand, the entire shopfront was demolished and rebuilt introducing a length of full height stacking doors to the Bunda St façade. When open, they help blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, drawing patrons into the lively eatery.

Jamie’s Italian, Perth

The restaurant, square in nature, sees the large kitchen, bar and anti-pasti flanking a bustling open dining area that bears all the hallmarks of a Jamie’s Italian. A pasta making area is located at the entrance adjacent to full height windows that look out onto William Street. The dining area seats approximately 170 people and is furnished with a mixture of whitewashed banquettes and eclectic industrial pieces. The footpath and adjacent laneway seats another 60 diners externally and provides a connection to the nearby retail precinct, breathing life into what was a dormant thoroughfare.
